What is the DRI?

New York State's Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) helps transform downtown neighborhoods into vibrant centers that offer a high quality of life. Communities are selected annually by their respective Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) through a competitive application process. Previous winners for the Mohawk Valley Region are Oneonta, Rome, Amsterdam, Utica, Gloversville, and Clinton - Kirkland.

The Village of Herkimer is the Mohawk Valley Round Seven DRI awardee and has received a $10 million grant from New York State Governor Kathy Hochul to develop a Strategic Investment Plan and implement catalytic projects that advance the community’s vision for revitalization. The effort will be led by a Local Planning Committee (LPC) composed of municipal representatives, community leaders, and other stakeholders and guided by regular input from the public. The LPC will be supported by a team of private sector experts and state planners.

The DRI program is led by the Department of State, in close partnership with Empire State Development, NYS Homes and Community Renewal and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.
